Historic St. Augustine

May 27 - St. Augustine has been on our list of places to visit for a few years now. This year we finally made it a reality! This was our second vacation trip of 2023. Hope you enjoy the photo blog!

On May 27 we hit the road and of course, the first place we stop for food is in Forest Park, just outside of Atlanta GA for some good ol’ Chick Fil A! This was around 2:00 in the afternoon so a late lunch for us, but this place had some unique items that aren’t normally on the CFA menu like Okra and Cornbread.

After that delicious lunch we piled back in the car and crossed the state line around 5 PM. We went through Jacksonville and stopped at this Italian place called, “Carmines Pie House” for some dinner and dessert. Amelia loved the loved the chocolate cake! Made it into St Augustine at 8:30 and to our AIrBnB (at the Hibiscus Resort) at 9:00. Amanda had found this place and it was really nice!

May 28 - Got an early start and made the all important grocery store run! Surprise! They have a Winn Dixie there. Made it out to the beach before heading to downtown St. Augustine. Ate lunch at Harry’s Seafood Bar and Grill and it was delicious! Walked over to Castillo De San Marcos National Monument and the Hig up St Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum. A quick trip to Bath Junkie and then back to the beach that evening.

May 29 - Today we went out to St Augustine Pier first thing in the morning and then hit up the Historic Lighthouse. Finished off the day by grilling out!

May 30 - Got up early to catch the sunrise. Headed out and ate breakfast at the world famous Oasis Restaurant. It was good! Then visited the Alligator farm and it was super stinky there. Also had to watch out for falling bird droppings. Drove out to Anastasia State Park and then back to the pier for splash pad time and then back out to downtown for walking.

May 31 - Had a bit of a lazy day. Amanda’s kids think I’m sick and dying, so we visited the Fountain of Youth so I could live forever! Had a great lunch at the Beachcomber and then went back to the splash pad for Amelia.

June 1 - It was time to head out. We drove up to Amelia Island and had a great lunch at Slider’s Seaside Grill before beginning our journey home.

WHERE SHOULD WE GO NEXT?

We are always on the lookout for new and neat things to see within a 6 hour drive of Decatur, AL. If you’ve got some good spots to visit over a weekend, let me know!

WHAT’S IN MY BAG

When it comes to travelling there are a few things I bring with me on every trip besides just clothes. You can see my full set up in the list below. I encourage everyone to travel with these items as it can save you a lot of headaches and hassle at times!

  1. LUGGAGE - Travel Pro is my go-to brand. I have multiple Travel Pro bags, but the small ones are most useful for me since we take a lot of trips that are 4 days or less. Once you experience the quality of these bags, you’ll never want anything else.

  2. MULTI TOOL - Leatherman Wave - My multitool goes everywhere because you never know when you’ll need it. And it turns out, a lot!

  3. FIRST AID KIT - Coleman Mini Kit - This is the perfect size for keeping in your bag and car in case of the minor boo boo, which happens a lot with kids. It’s cheap and effective.

  4. CHARGING CABLE - Anker 10’ cable for iphones - I like to have a lot of slack because I never know how far away from the outlet I’ll be. I use to use a 6’ , but found sometimes even that wasn’t long enough. The 10’ doesn’t take up much more space and works great.

  5. CHARGING BRICK - Anker Dual Port Charger - This is my go-to travel charger. It’s awesome because you can tie in someone else if needed as well. It’s small and compact.

  6. EARBUDS - Apple Airpods Gen 2 - I still prefer these and love them for listening to podcasts and Youtube on my morning walks/exercise stuff.
